    John P Rigg
    Vice President & General Manager

     

    John is our Vice President and General Manager, Manufacturing for Exelead (Indianapolis, IN), formerly known as Sigma Tau Pharmasource. 

     

    John has both Manufacturing and Quality responsibilities for the Leadiant products that are manufactured internally in Indianapolis, as well as for products manufactured by Exelead on behalf of other clients.

     

    Prior to joining Exelead in June 2014, John served as the Vice President of Manufacturing for Ventria Bioscience, Fort Collins Co., a progressive bioscience company specializing in developing and commercializing proteins expressed in rice. Prior to Ventria, John spent 25 years at Eli Lilly and Company with a multitude of assignments across manufacturing sites in the US, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. John has extensive knowledge and experience with the development, scale up, and commercialization of therapeutic proteins.

     

    Originally from Liverpool, England, John attended Liverpool University where he graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry. John is a former track runner, and is active supporting the Zionsville High School athletic program where his wife Suzanne coaches, and their daughter Sophia competes. His son Oliver, is currently enrolled at the University of Alabama, where he is studying for a business degree and is competing for the track and field team.

    Gwyn Murdoch

    Gwyn Murdoch
    Senior Director of Quality Operations

     

    Gwyn is the Senior Director of Quality Operations at Exelead. In this role, Gwyn is responsible for all quality and testing activities conducted at the Exelead, Inc. facility located in Indianapolis, IN. She provides leadership to Directors/Managers/Supervisors at the site to ensure all quality and testing activities are performed on time and according to Exelead’s quality standards and all applicable regulatory requirements. She assists in the implementation and direct strategy for new business opportunities for Exelead and provides direction and oversight to all GMP manufacturing of current and future drug substances and drug products. She also provides managerial leadership, innovative thinking, and technical expertise to identify and resolve technical and quality issues. In addition, she supervises the quality and GMP compliance of all external vendors/manufacturers involved in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and drug product.

     

    Prior to joining Exelead, Gwyn held quality leadership positions over her 29 years at Eli Lilly and Company. Most recently, she was the Director of Quality Assurance for Procurement, where she was responsible for the Corporate Supplier Quality Auditing and Supplier Quality Management (SQM) program supporting commercial manufacturing globally for Lilly human health drug products/devices and Elanco animal health products. Gwyn also has extensive quality experience in the areas of Materials/Packaging & Labeling Quality Systems, the Distribution of Finished Products and Cold Chain Management, Incoming Purchased Materials, and Biosynthetic API manufacturing. Gwyn is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of Rx-360, an International Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Consortium. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry/Mathematics and her Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry at Central Michigan University.

    Mandy Redmond

    Mandy Redmond
    Director of Quality Assurance

     

    Mandy is the Director of Quality Assurance. She joined the Company in 2011. Prior to this, she served as Senior Manager of Quality Assurance for Roche Diagnostics. Mandy has over 20 years of experience in the biopharma/medical device industry, spanning technical publications, research and development, regulatory affairs, customer complaint handling, and quality management. Mandy holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism/ Technical Writing from Indiana University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She holds Quality Auditor and Manager of Quality/ Organizational Excellence certifications from the American Society for Quality and serves on the Industry Advisory Board for Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis.

    Matthew VonEsch

    Matthew VonEsch
    Sr. Director of Manufacturing

     

    Matthew is the Senior Director of Manufacturing at Exelead (Indianapolis, IN).  In this role, Matthew is responsible for all Manufacturing (Bulk, Fill/Finish, and Packaging), Facilities/Maintenance, and Validation activities conducted at the Exelead facility.   Matthew provides leadership to the site to ensure all activities under his umbrella are performed on time, are according to Exelead’s quality standards, and are compliant with the applicable regulatory requirements.  He is a member of the Exelead New Business Development Steering Committee and participates in advisement and direct implementation/strategy for new business opportunities at Exelead.  He also provides managerial leadership, innovative thinking, and technical expertise to identify and resolve technical and production issues. In addition, he serves as a regulatory advisor for many of our existing clients.

     

    Prior to joining Exelead, Matthew worked for United Therapeutics (UT) in escalating roles of leadership, most recently as the Manufacturing Projects Manager, where he led technical knowledge transfer processes for R&D/Commercial projects moving into/out of the Fill/Finish and biologics production areas; in addition to oversight of externally produced products within the UT portfolio. Matthew has key experience in API and aseptic manufacturing facility design, start-up, and operation; leveraging his experience at Wyeth, Human Genome Sciences, and MedImmune to shape production and facilities of the future. Matthew is a member of both the ISPE and PDA communities, he is the acting Chair of the ISPE Sterile Products Processing COP.  He is a frequent industry panelist, speaker, and recognized expert in aseptic processing.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Merrimack College.

    Karla Aberle

    Karla Aberle
    Director of Quality Control

     

    Karla is the Director of Quality Control.  She manages three groups; two Quality Control laboratory (Chemistry and Microbiology), as well as the Analytical Technical group that does method development and validation.  Karla joined the company in 2007 as an analyst in the Microbiology laboratory.  She was made manager of the Microbiology department in 2009, and then Sr. Manager of the Microbiology and Analytical Technical group in 2015.  She has been the Director of Quality Control and managed all three groups since January 2016.  Karla is NRCM (National Registry of Certified Microbiologists) certified.  She holds a bachelor’s of science in Chemistry and a master’s of science in Microbiology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

    Larry Beiter

    Larry Beiter
    Director of Process Engineering & Development

     

    Larry is the Director, Process Engineering and Development for Exelead. Larry is responsible for tech transfer of existing Clinical and Commercial manufacturing processes/product to the Indianapolis facility as well as development of new processes at the pre-clinical stage. Larry’s role includes evaluation of new business requests and development of process and project plans for new business proposals. 

     

    Prior to Sigma Tau’s purchase of the Indianapolis manufacturing facility in 2010, Larry was employed at the site for 15 years as part of the Liposome Company, Elan Pharmaceuticals and Enzon Pharmaceuticals. Larry has served in a variety of independent contributor and leadership roles at the facility including process engineer, project manager and engineering and validation manager. Prior to joining the Liposome Company, Larry worked for Jacobs Engineering on a variety of engineering and design projects in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. Larry has extensive knowledge and experience with the development, scale up, and commercialization of liposomal products and sterile manufacturing.

     

    Larry attended Rutgers University in New Jersey where he graduated with a BSc in Chemical Engineering with a focus on Biochemical engineering. Larry is an avid sailor and outdoor enthusiast and is active in the local community and schools.

    Dwayne E. Turner

    Director of Finance

     

    Dwayne is Director of Finance for Exelead.  He has overall responsibilities for Cost and General Accounting and Financial Planning activities for Exelead. Dwayne joined the company in June 2010, after the acquisition of the plant.

     

    Prior to joining Exelead, Dwayne was Business Unit Controller for Ingersoll Rand’s Security Integration business in Carmel, Indiana.  He started his financial career as a cost accountant with Westinghouse Electric’s Nuclear Service Division in Pittsburgh, PA.  Dwayne spent 18 years with Westinghouse in various Finance roles of increasing responsibility.  Emerson Electric purchased the Westinghouse Process Control division and he spent 5 years with Emerson, including Vice President of Finance for their Buehler Division in Lake Bluff, IL.  Dwayne was Controller for the United Rentals Highway Technology group in Chicago, prior to moving to Indiana.

     

    Dwayne is originally from Hartford, Connecticut.  He graduated with a BS in Accounting from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. He has a MBA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Public Accountant.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.

    Valarie Gossage

    Valarie Gossage
    Director of Human Resources

     

    Valarie is our Director of Human Resources for Exelead.  Valarie is an accomplished HR professional with over 23 years of experience in the manufacturing industry in both public and private sectors.

     

    Valarie is responsible for implementing human resource management strategies that enable Exelead to plan, staff, train, and retain a high performing and motivated workforce. Her responsibilities also include compensation, benefits, employee relations and leadership development.

     

    Prior to joining Exelead in October 2006, Valarie served as the Manager of Human Resources at PK USA, a Tier-one automotive supplier to industry giants, including Nissan, Saturn, Toyota, Subaru, and Isuzu. At PK USA, she was responsible for Human Resource operations and budgetary management of four North American plants. While there, her accomplishments included a successful start- up plant and a successful plant acquisition.

     

    Valarie holds a Masters in Science Management from Indiana Wesleyan and holds her Professional Human Resource (PHR) certification through the Human Resource Certification Institute, as well as being a Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) through the Society of Human Resource Management.
